Pay It Forward Mentoring Thursdays

Some adventures are great to tackle alone, others require a little bit of support along the way – especially when it comes to building a start-up or marketing strategy from scratch.

Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur stuck in the planning stages or you’re a new start-up struggling to gain traction in your industry, everybody can benefit from the wisdom and guidance of a mentor.

Many of the household names in business today wouldn’t be where they are without their own mentors. For example:

  • Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft, credits some of his success to the guidance of Warren Buffet – stating he taught him how to ‘deal with tough situations and think long-term’.
  • Mark Zuckerburg, Co-Founder and CEO of Meta, says he was constantly inspired and advised by Steve Jobs.
  • Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, states he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without the mentorship of Sir Freddie Laker.

It’s not just billionaire business tycoons that have found value in mentors. Studies have shown that 70% of small businesses that receive mentoring survive for five years or more. Also, an outstanding 97% of businesses, with a mentor, said they were valuable to their business’ success. Despite these exceptional figures, it’s shocking to know that 85% of businesses have no mentor at all.

Here at Copy House, we see the value in passing down knowledge and experience to the next generation of business start-ups. That’s why we’re proud to offer our very own pay it forward mentoring sessions.

What Does “Pay it Forward” Mean?

“Pay it forward” is exactly how it sounds. The idea is to help others for nothing in return, in the hope that they’ll be able to do the same one day.

Whether it’s start-up mentoring or just buying a stranger a coffee at Starbucks, paying it forward is a great way to give back to the community and help out our fellow humans – something that we need to do now, more than ever.

“It’s not always smooth sailing. Nurturing and growing your own business is like raising a child – it has its ups and downs and can be a great challenge. However, it can also be incredibly rewarding once you see the success that stems from hard work.

I’ve also had help along the way from my family, team and network. No one needs to take this journey alone, and the great thing about Pay it Forward is that I can share what worked and didn’t work for me so others can avoid falling into the same trap.”

- Kathryn Strachan, Managing Director of CopyHouse.
